Name: Steve Donovan
Team member, Simpson Desert run, Born to Run
Story: Stephen, 19 will be running alongside his father Greg, and Brother Matt , when the Born to Run Team tackles their last race in this gruelling endeavour, the Big Red Run in the Simpson Desert in July 2013.
A keen sports participant from a young age, Stephen enjoyed soccer, rugby league, rugby union, tennis, baseball, cricket and mountain bike riding. When he was 14, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and coeliac disease and although his life changed significantly, he promised himself that we would not let his diabetes stand in the way of his dreams.
In late 2011, Stephen's father, Greg, told the family he intended to raise funds for juvenile diabetes research and his plan to run the 5 Deserts race. Inspired by his father's passion to run for a cure, Stephen is determined to train hard so that he too can conquer the Simpson Desert and help raise funds to find a cure for his own disease.
Stephen will be using ExT1D in assisting him managing his diabetes during his training. The Born to Run foundation is raising funds for the clinical trials of exT1d.
Stephen was a student at St Augustine's College, Brookvale before starting his Bachelor of Business Degree at The Australian Catholic University in 2012.
