The Born to Run Foundation and the Born to Run “5 Deserts” Team is determined to raise awareness and help find a cure for Type 1 diabetes, by running 250km as a team of 5, across 5 of the worlds harshest deserts to set multiple records.
Join us, as we follow our hearts, keep moving forward and never give up, in our race for a cure.
Their compelling journey, starting this year, is led by 51-year-old Greg Donovan, who has promised his son Stephen he will do what he can to help him after he was diagnosed aged 14 with the potentially fatal Type 1 Diabetes.
What he can do is run long distances as he proved in previous fundraising efforts – including running in the 2002 New York Marathon with a stress fracture to raise nearly $160,000 on behalf of his employer Aon, to help pay for the education of children whose parents were victims of the September 11 attacks.

There are twenty million people worldwide suffering from Type 1 diabetes, for which there is currently no cure - only ways to manage the symptoms.
